Welcome to HistoryAtOurHouse.Com, the site for the world's first Full IntegrationTM history curriculum for students from 2nd to 12th grade.
This site and the accompanying HistoryAtOurHouse Blog have been created to provide homeschoolers with the widest possible range of resources to enrich their curricula with the unique value of history.
In particular, the HistoryAtOurHouse curriculum, available to everyone for the first time starting in September 2007, will provide homeschooling parents with an unparalleled opportunity to give their children a professionally designed, flexible and affordable history program.
Public schools, to the extent that they teach history anymore, tend to lump it into "Social Studies." This type of program usually stuffs the story of the Mayflower, the Constitution, and the Civil War into a senseless "grab bag" that includes lessons on rainforests, recycling, and Australian Aborigines, leaving students wondering just what it is they are studying!
To escape this approach, most homeschoolers seek out the classical alternative of traditional narrative history (with an updated or "modern" perspective, if they can find it.) The challenge homeschoolers face, however, is to find a program that not only provides the proper content, but also presents the story of the past in such a way as to keep children motivated and engaged by it from age seven to seventeen.
The HistoryAtOurHouse Full IntegrationTM curriculum is uniquely designed to meet that need. It is an integrated, rigorous, and exciting history program for students from 2nd to 12th grade.
The HistoryAtOurHouse program can fit any homeschooler's schedule and approach to academics.
Students and parents who enjoy live lectures, who like to ask and be asked questions, and who can attend classes on a regular schedule are welcome to call in to live conference-calls, taught by Mr. Powell. Parents who operate on a more fluid schedule can have their children attend on any day of the week and time of day by means of internet-based recordings provided in MP3 format. (These recordings are easily downloaded into an iPod for listening in the car, during a commute, or on a walk. It doesn't get more convenient than that!)
A range of materials are also provided, which can be implemented at parents' discretion. Live lectures are supplemented by maps, images, web links, history vocabulary exercises, and lecture notes. (Students are not encouraged to take notes independently until Junior High.) Tests, test preparation sheets, and grading keys are all available--and can be used (or not) as parents see fit.
HistoryAtOurHouse provides a rigorous program and recommends a serious academic orientation, but it recognizes that such an approach is not a perfect fit for every child, and it does not impose any particular procedures or methods of using class materials.
By offering multiple tiers, HistoryAtOurHouse allows parents to choose from among options that not only fit their approach to homeschooling, but also their budget.
The program is available for as little as $20/month!
But wait, it get's better! $20/month is the cost per level. That means that if you have two students on one level, you pay only $10/month per student!
Do you have a large family or do you split costs through a homeschool co-op? Then your savings will be even greater! Go ahead and split that cost three, four, or more ways! HistoryAtOurHouse believes a world-class education doesn't have to be expensive! The program uses leading technology to make expert-led, home-based learning, affordable.
